Custom QR Code Engine: Server, Mobile, or Embedded—Where to Run It

A custom QR code engine can run on the server, inside a mobile app, or on an embedded device. The right choice depends on latency, connectivity, and where your data lives.
Centralized generation and decoding via APIs. Best when data is on the backend, you need audit trails, or many clients (web, mobile, partners) share the same engine. You pay for server capacity and network round-trips.
Generation or decoding inside the app. Best for offline or low-latency flows (e.g. generate a code without a round-trip, or decode from camera). The engine must be small and fast on CPU and memory.
On printers, kiosks, or industrial devices. Tight resource limits and often no cloud dependency. The engine is optimized for the target MCU or SoC and may use a minimal runtime.
