Battery Life Optimization IoT Firmware: 3+ Years on AA Batteries

IoT sensors that run for years on AA batteries are possible only if firmware is designed for power from day one.
- Deep sleep: CPU and most peripherals off between measurements. Wake only on timer or event.
- Wake discipline: Short, infrequent wake windows. Batch work; avoid unnecessary radio or sensor on-time.
- Radio duty cycling: Transmit in bursts; turn radio off immediately after.
- Power profiling: Measure current in each state (sleep, active, radio) and optimize the dominant consumers.
